Shigeno Ichimura was born in 1963 in Okinawa, Japan, where his journalist father was relocated for work. Growing up under the U.S. military occupation, he later moved to Tokyo at the age of 11, two years after Okinawa was returned to Japan. Spending his teenage years in Shinjuku, he pursued his artistic aspirations after graduating from university and moved to New York City in 1989 to become an artist, and is currently based in NYC and Tokyo.

Primarily employing a minimalist and abstract approach, Ichimura expresses the relativity of phenomena through several series, revolving around sub-themes such as light, time, relationships, memory, and traces.
